Restless Reads | Weekly Reading Recap
because if you’re anything like me, your soul gets restless as well.
It’s been forever since I’ve done a reading recap! It’s been forever since I finished a book! So crazy considering at one point I was a busy book blogger who read 8-10 books a month and posted every single day on my blog for years. I miss that blog and sometimes I miss that life, but now at 40, something like that along with the obligations of being an adult… makes that hard to achieve.
I really wanted to make progress with my Oct Reading Challenge I do every year, and while I’m making some progress, it’s not as fast as I’d like. I’m trying not to beat myself up about it because there’s no reason to. The month is flying by and my reading isn’t catching up, but it’s fine. It will be okay. The point is that I finished anything at all this year.
Books I Finished;
I have such big love for The Goddess Girls series as it was one of books I was asked to review from the authors themselves. I’ve read a good amount of them and saw there was a Hecate title, so of course I had to pick it up! These are short easy reads, a great way to introduce kids to the Greek Goddesses in a really fun and relatable way.
Belladonna is one I picked up earlier this year and for some reason just did not end up finishing. I’m so glad I decided to pick it up again and finish it, I really did enjoy the book and the ending wasn’t something I saw coming, at all. It had me pick up the second book immediately after! If you’re like me and are drawn to books where Death is a character then I’d suggest giving this one a try.
Books I DNF;

I feel like this one could had been so much more. I’ve picked it up about 3 times and just… I’m not vibing with it. At all. I feel like I’m missing something since so many people rave about it, but there’s just something about it that’s not doing it for me.
Which is fine! Not everyone is going to like every book, at least I gave it a fair chance before I decided this was going in the DNF pile.
Books I’m Reading;
I’m almost half way done with Weyward and it’s giving slow down and enjoy this. The triple POV’s don’t really help sometimes lol but the more I inch closer to the end, the more and more I want to know how these 3 women are connected. Kind of sucks this is a stand alone cause I already know I’m going to want more once I finish it.
The Girl with no Reflection is not really something I want to read at night, as interesting as it is. I can feel myself scooting my iPad farther and farther away from me as if the book can see me or something lmao. I don’t usually get easily spooked by books! So when I do, it’s like my nervous system rings all the alarms. Part of why I haven’t gone back to House of Salt & Sorrow no matter how much I want to. Creepy kid and her creepy visions. DON’T DRAW THEM. What the fuck. I’ll finish this one, maybe. But maybe not by the end of Oct, who knows.
Cinder House is one I am READY to start. Cinderella as a ghost? YES PLEASE let me know all the things! I’m such a sucker for retellings but I’m so picky with the retellings that I actually finish. I’ve read a number of Cinderella retellings and other than Cinder, none of the others really stand out to me. Retelling but make it ghosty? Yesssss pleaseeee!
I’m glad to be getting back into reading — I think it’s something my nervous system needs right now in order to learn to settle. Things have been crazy, unfair and frustrating lately, I forgot how much reading just sweeps me away from real life and I don’t have to be or do anything other than keep reading.
What are some books you’ve finished this week or are planning to read next? I’d love to know in the comments, esp if it’s in the gothic romance genre!
